Curriculum Overview
The College provides a curriculum which is academically strong, progressive and comprehensive. The curriculum is based upon the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) incorporating the three strands of: Physical, Personal and Social Learning, Discipline-Based Learning and Interdisciplinary Learning. Students in all units of study will be assessed against the VELS criteria.
At Year 7 students are provided with a study of core subjects, as well as many supportive structures, in line with Middle Years practices. Structures are aimed to enable students to feel safe in their new environment. A Home Room and Pastoral Care/Contact Group Teacher are allocated. The Contact Group Teacher also teaches the group in two subjects and the number of teachers that the Year 7 students are involved with is kept to a minimum.
Students are provided with a wide range of studies and the opportunity to specialise through elective units of study in Years 8, 9 and 10. Students are taught in ways both theoretical and practical that develop the whole person. A comprehensive range of VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) studies, including VETiS (Vocational Education and Training in Schools) and VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) courses, provides real pathways to post-secondary opportunities.
